Everest is the most Kiwi accent-infused blockbuster ever. Everyone involved does a great job. Also, Jemaine Clement gets to use his own accent in his new movie People, Places, Things. To mark this turning point in the cinematic journey of our intangible gurgling, I have decided to examine five notable attempts by (non-Australian) actors at capturing it for my Herald blog.
There are two glaring omissions that should be noted:
Firstly Alexis Arquette’s impressive turn in the underappreciated Kiwi psycho thriller Jack Be Nimble.
And also Sir Ben Kingsley’s braying utterances in Ender’s Game. For shame, Sir Ben Kingsley, for shame.
